Calories or Macros Take One!

Count your Calories or Macros?

If you read the email last Monday, you’re already a head of the game that counting calories is futile. Especially as we get older. There are a ton of variables at play

But. That leaves us with a hole….what DO we focus on then?

I’m so glad you asked this questions….MACROS!

Before we dig into narrowing in on how much and such, lets explain WHAT Macros are and how they work in the body.

Macros…or Macronutrients, live within 3 main categories: Protein, Carbs, Fats.

Every single thing you eat falls within 1 (or more) of these three categories and are absolutely necessary (even carbs) for a healthy, functioning, body.

Protein is an essential building block for muscle growth. Yea, yea, yea, you’ve heard this before and it’s a joke that bodybuilders eat lots of protein

But it’s true! That girl in the gym who’s lean, toned, looks badass? Yea, she eats a boatload of protein.

As you gain muscle, your resting metabolic rate elevates as muscle is a “living” tissue that requires more units of energy and nutrients to exist. So it isn’t just a gym thing to say, eat more protein, it’s a legitimate, metabolic fact! Eating more protein builds muscle (if you’re weight training), elevates your metabolism, AND helps balance hormones

Yup, you read that right.

Protein acts like a insulin cap, allowing blood sugar to only rise to a certain point. Not only does protein do this, it provides the body with amino acids for cellular health, organ regeneration and more.

OH! Speaking of cells, did you know every 30 years, every single cell in our body has died and we “grew” new ones? Yup! If you are 30, the body, organs, you have now, are direct reflection of the NUTRIENTS you did or did not consume over the last 30 years…YIKES! Gut punch right?!

Lets take that a step further, the mitochondria, powerhouse of the cell, is made from…PROTEIN!

Want to age more gracefully? EAT PROTEIN!

I know, there are 2 more Macros to go through. I’ll discuss those later. This is enough for one day!
