Let’s Chat Hormones: The Wild (But Totally Manageable) Ride Inside Every Woman’s Body!

Hey Girl Heeeeeey!
Alright, today we’re diving into something every woman deals with but no one talks about enough: HORMONES. As I sit here at the tender age of 39, navigating Peri-Menopause <–yea girl, it’s true. I find myself chatting with members about this season and no one knows anything about hormones so lets break this down.
Hormones….yep, those little messengers that affect everything from your mood to your metabolism. And let me tell you, they can be a bit… temperamental. (I was a whole MOOOOD last Monday) But don’t worry, I’m here to break it down in a way that makes sense (and won’t make you want to throw your phone out the window!).
Let’s talk about the wild party happening inside your body—because knowing what’s going on is half the battle to feeling your best.
Meet the Hormone Squad: Estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone
These three are the OGs. Estrogen is like the queen bee, controlling your cycle, keeping your bones strong, and giving your skin that glow. But too much? Mood swings, weight gain, and bloating. Then there’s progesterone—the calming, grounding BFF hormone that helps you sleep and keeps anxiety in check. When progesterone dips (like before your period or in PERI MENOPAUSE), things can get a little… emotional. <–understatement for me. Yikes! And finally, testosterone. Yep, we have that too! It gives us energy, boosts our sex drive, and helps with muscle building.
These three are always doing their dance, and when they’re in balance, life feels pretty awesome. But when they’re out of whack? It’s like a bad reality show with too much drama.
Cortisol: The Stress Queen That Loves to Stir the Pot
Cortisol is your body’s stress hormone, and she’s the overactive friend who loves to show up uninvited. When you’re stressed (even if you don’t realize it), cortisol goes into overdrive. And when cortisol is high, it messes with your other hormones—especially estrogen and progesterone. That means more mood swings, more belly fat (yep, cortisol LOVES to store fat around your midsection), and even messing with your sleep. Cortisol’s motto? “More stress, less balance.” What a B!
Insulin: The Blood Sugar Bouncer
Insulin’s job is to control your blood sugar, like a bouncer at a club. If you’re constantly eating sugary, processed foods (or skipping meals), insulin spikes, and when it’s overworked, it leads to fat storage, energy crashes, and—yep, you guessed it—more hormonal chaos. (I keep tellin y’all….) Keeping insulin in check by eating balanced meals with protein, healthy fats, and fiber is key to keeping the whole hormone party under control.
Thyroid: The Metabolism Master
Your thyroid is like the thermostat for your metabolism. When it’s functioning properly, you feel energized, warm, and alive. But when it’s sluggish (hypothyroidism), you might feel tired, gain weight, or even experience mood swings. Thyroid imbalances are super common in women, and they can mess with everything from your energy to your periods. That’s why keeping your thyroid happy is crucial for overall hormonal harmony.
So there you have it—the hormone squad and a very surfacey explanation of how they interact with each other like a very dramatic, high-maintenance group chat. The key to keeping them in check? Regular exercise, good nutrition, stress management, and knowing when things feel “off” so you can take action.
Remember, your hormones are there to help, not hinder, but they need the right balance to work their magic. And like an angry toddler, they take some time to settle down. So let’s keep the drama low, the self-care high, and make those hormones your friends instead of frenemies!
Cheers to hormone harmony. Need support? Our members who are also participating in our Nutrition Program, solo or the group coaching, are FEEELING the HEALING, as they sleep better, have a better mood, and energy while the lbs are starting to drip away
